Hey, all. I wrote this update of everyone’s favorite Covenant Prayer in the Wesleyan Tradition to use in worship Sunday. I thought I’d run it by you.

A New Covenant Prayer in the Wesleyan Tradition
We are no longer our own, but yours. Put us to your work, place us among your children. Put us to labor, put us to sacrifice. Let us work when we should work and rest when we should rest. Let us find happiness through you or misery through you. Let us be full, let us be empty. Let us have all things, let us have nothing. With great joy and thanksgiving we surrender our bodies, our lives, and our souls to you. And now, gracious and loving God, creator, redeemer, and sustainer, we are your and you are ours. Amen. And the covenant which we have made in your creation as it is, let it be remembered in a creation transformed by your love. Amen.

I wanted to get some theological feedback. Is it Wesleyan enough? What changes would you make to the original or to mine? A quick note–I struggled with the trinitarian language. I use “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit” myself, but I wanted to use something more (sigh) inclusive (damn you, Eden) in this. I’d love some help coming up with Immanent Trinitarian language. Oh, and I’m not saying the original needed to be updated. I still like it very much. I just thought this would be a fun challenge. Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
