Religious debate in America

First, check this out.

At first, I thought this was pretty funny. Then I realized this is the level of debate. One side gets hung up on an irrelevant point of doctrine (how does it help you be a better disciple if you believe that dogs don’t have souls?), and the other responds by dismissing doctrine altogether. Surely there’s a way to maintain doctrine in a living way. All statements of faith, no matter how progressive at first, eventually become reactionay conservativism. I know I’m not saying anything interesting or original, but this exchange bothers me. I realize that it’s some form of photoshoppery, but good satire always rings true.
